When I was younger,
I took a sabbatical year,
And I traveled through the countryside.
During my journey,
At spring,
I stayed in a small town.
There, I regularly saw two butterflies,
They were playing in the meadows,
Flying upon each other.
I enjoyed such moments,
The peacefulness I felt.
Such sensation,
Went well into my bones.
One day,
At dusk,
I went again to the same place,
But there was no trail of them.
After searching for a while,
I sat down on a lump of sand,
Below an elm tree.
Feeling the relentless rotation of the earth underneath me,
And watching the sun disappearing throughout the horizon,
I kept wondering about them.
Suddenly,
I remembered something they once told me:
When we see the stars,
We don't really know they are still there,
They might as well have disappeared a long time ago.
Straightaway, I realized,
Despite its occasional misfortunes,
The present is all we have,
And I stood up to my feet.
We’re just a tiny ripple on an immense sea,
What the future awaits us,
It is certainly unknown,
But while the clock is still ticking,
We might as well make a move,
And try to enjoy the uncertain ride.
